Bakuva
GUARANTEEING AN INCLUSIVE AND PROTECTIVE ENVIRONMENT
This project is aimed at children at risk of social exclusion, aged between 8 and 14, from the Bilbao La Vieja area
In collaboration with the Bakuva Foundation, we form three mixed teams each season in the categories of Under-14, Under-12, and Under-10, competing in school sports leagues.
The teams are led by coaches from the Athletic Club Foundation. The main objective is to create a protective environment for these children, many of whom come from dysfunctional families, supporting their educational and inclusive processes while fostering a culture of coexistence through sports, recreational, and academic activities.

CHILDREN WHO HAVE PROUDLY REPRESENTED THE COLOURS OF BAKUVA AND THE FOUNDATION
The children in this project suffer from a lack of basic resources, which prevents them from accessing essential services and quality education
The partnership between the Athletic Club Foundation and the Bakuva Foundation allows us to address their challenges from two crucial perspectives for the children’s development: Bakuva provides academic support and other sports such as basketball, while the Athletic Club Foundation offers access to participatory and regulated leisure activities through football, enabling them to acquire and improve skills and behaviours for daily life.

The teams train three times a week at the El Fango sports centre
The sessions focus on both sporting issues and personal behaviour, coexistence, hygiene, and daily habits.
The presence of our coaches is fundamental, as they become authority figures and role models for children who often lack such figures at home.
The teams compete in the school league on Saturdays. Home matches are played at the Lezama sports facilities, which helps reinforce positive behaviours, as the teams feel part of the Athletic Club structure.
At the end of the season, a final celebration is organised with the players from all three teams to mark the end of the season and award prizes (such as places at the camp) to some players who have shown exemplary dedication, recognising their efforts.
It is also worth noting that the coaching staff for the Bakuva teams includes former players from the teams, who, having once been part of the project, now contribute to its current development.
