GROWING TOGETHER, SPORT AND DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
This project is aimed at children with intellectual disabilities between the ages of eight and eighteen.
It consists of a series of weekly multisport training sessions with Athletic Club coaches, where, in addition to physical fitness, they focus on aspects such as autonomy, personal hygiene, and behaviour.
200
BOYS AND GIRLS HAVE TRAINED PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS WITH FUNDAZIOA AND HAVE IMPROVED THEIR AUTONOMY.
Children with intellectual disabilities experience more psychomotor difficulties than those without disabilities
Additionally, families often tend to overprotect children with intellectual disabilities and are hesitant to enrol them in extracurricular sports activities.
At Lezama, we have the best specialists in psychomotricity. Furthermore, the presence of Athletic Club creates a strong connection for the participants, allowing us to establish certain expectations regarding behaviour, which in turn helps improve their autonomy.
At the end of the season, participants receive a diploma issued by the Athletic Club Foundation. The aim of this is to boost their self-esteem.
As participants reach adulthood, they transition to the Athletic Club team in La Liga Genuine.
