Jose Angel Iribar and Andoni Egaña star in the gatherings that the Athletic Club Foundation organizes about the book “Makatza” in different schools throughout the academic year
Last Tuesday, 27th of May, Laudio Ikastola hosted a new literary gathering of the Athletic Reading Club of “Makatza”, a book written by “bertsolari” Andoni Egaña that recreates the childhood of Jose Angel Iribar, “Txopo”, in his native Zarautz. ESO second cycle secondary schoolchildren were able to enjoy anecdotes of redjiblanco turned into myth and solve their questions about the book in a nice and participative environment.
The day was a success; the students, who had previously read the novel, prepared some questions for the occasion. During the literary gathering, Andoni Egaña explained in detail the writing process of “Makatza”, while Iribar recalled the most important moments of his sports career, fascinating young people with their anecdotes and reflections. The red-white legend also underlined the importance of Euskera and encouraged young people to promote its use.
This initiative is part of the cultural area of the Foundation along with other projects such as the Letrak eta Futbola festival or the irakurLE-ON / irakurLE-ONA campaign.

In addition to this session, several literary gatherings have been held in different centers of the Basque Country, including those held at the Ikastola Larramendi, IES Unamuno or Ikastola Ander Deuna. Upcoming appointments will take place on 10 June at IES Markina and, finally, 17 June at Ikastola Itxaropena.
The book “Makatza” is one of the books that the Athletic Club Foundation has published and distributed free of charge in several schools in the Basque Country with the aim of bringing reading closer to the world of football.
