The final training session for the six teams involved in the Bakuva project took place at Lezama last Tuesday, alongside the traditional end-of-season picnic
As in previous years, around 90 players from the six teams involved in the Bakuva & Marca Terreno Lay’s Replay project gathered at Lezama for the final training session of the season to mark the end of the season.
The Bakuva Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the social integration of children from the Bilbao la Vieja neighbourhood. Its aim is to support school-age children, fostering their integration and development within a society and culture of coexistence through recreational, academic and sporting activities.
Football is everything when not everything is football
Since 2013, the Athletic Club Foundation has been collaborating with Bakuva through a joint project which, using football as a social tool, enables children to acquire and improve skills and behaviours for their daily lives. One
Three of the six teams gathered at Lezama are girls’ teams and form part of the Lay’s Replay Marca Terreno project, now in its second season. Run in partnership with Common Goal and the UEFA Foundation, this project is aimed at girls aged between 12 and 16 from Bilbao, particularly those from families with a migrant background, and aims to provide them with a safe space for learning and development through sport.
The day ended with the now-traditional afternoon tea and the allocation of eight places at the AC Campus to players
End of the season for four more of the Athletic Club Foundation’s inclusion projects
This coming Friday will also see the end of the season for four more of Fundazioa’s inclusion projects: Goiztiri, Adsis, Bizitegi and Berriztu. They will also be marking the end of the season in Lezama with a series of friendly matches followed by an afternoon tea.
These four projects work to promote the inclusion of people at risk of social exclusion. In collaboration with the Athletic Club Foundation, they run weekly workshops, activities and training sessions. In short, football as a social tool, because football is everything when not everything is football.
