The Athletic Club Foundation and the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia are launching an initiative that promotes adapted physical activity as a tool for overall improvement
The facilities in Lezama hosted this week the first session of the new Walking Football programme aimed at people who have overcome cancer or are living with the disease in a chronic condition. Nearly forty participants took part in this inaugural session, promoted by the Athletic Club Foundation together with the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia.
First training session in Lezama
Following the presentation day held last Thursday, during which participants were able to become familiar with the facilities and the structure of the project, today marked the first official training session of the programme, led by the Athletic Club’s technical staff.
The format practiced is based on a low-intensity approach in which running and physical contact are not permitted, thereby minimising the risk of injury and facilitating the participation of people with different levels of physical condition, fostering a safe, inclusive and accessible experience.
The programme will take place weekly on Thursdays at 12:00 noon in Lezama, continuing this initiative that brings together sport, health and companionship.
Sport to improve quality of life
Regular moderate physical activity in people who have undergone an oncological process has been shown to help improve functional capacity, reduce fatigue, enhance mood and increase overall quality of life.
Through this project, the Athletic Club Foundation and the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia reinforce their joint commitment to sport as a tool for physical, emotional and social well-being, aimed at reducing the impact caused by cancer and improving people’s quality of life.
