The Athletic Club Foundation and the Bizkaia Cancer Association are promoting a Walking Football program for cancer survivors and people living with chronic conditions
The Athletic Club Foundation, in collaboration with the Bizkaia Cancer Association, is launching a new Walking Football program aimed at cancer survivors or those living with chronic illness.
The initiative is part of the Athletic Club Foundation’s commitment to promoting health and well-being through sport, adapting the Walking Football project—which it had already been developing for years—to a group with specific needs and offering a safe sporting activity.
With this project, the Athletic Club Foundation and the Bizkaia Cancer Association are reinforcing their joint commitment to sport as a tool for physical, emotional, and social well-being, aimed at reducing the impact of cancer and improving people’s quality of life.
Walking Football is a low-intensity form of soccer in which physical contact and running are not allowed, reducing the risk of injury and facilitating the participation of people with different physical abilities. Scientific evidence shows that regular moderate physical activity in people who have overcome cancer or are living with the disease contributes to improving their functional capacity, reducing fatigue, improving mood, and promoting overall quality of life.

The activity is scheduled to begin in the first week of February 2026. The program will be held at the Athletic Club’s training facilities in Lezama, with weekly training sessions on Thursdays at 12:00 p.m. led by the Athletic Club’s team of technical professionals.
The deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, January 20.
The participation process will be led by the Association, which will be responsible for managing the call for applications, assessing each case individually, and supporting interested parties.
Those wishing to take part in the program should contact the organization by calling the toll-free number 900 100 036.
Places are limited and will be allocated in order of registration until the maximum quota is reached.
