More than 80 young people from the reserve team and the Fidias Foundation participate in an innovative initiative to promote sustainability and responsible nutrition
The Athletic Club Foundation, in cooperation with EIT Food, organised yesterday the third and final session of the food waste education programme in Lezama. The event brought together over 80 young people from the Alevin masculine of Athletic Club and boys and girls from the Fidias Foundation, who participated in a sustainable yincan designed to strengthen the lessons learned in the previous two sessions in a dynamic and fun way.
The last workshop of this initiative was held in Lezama under the name Mission Athletic Club: Food Waste and Healthy Eating, where players of the Alevin male team of Athletic Club shared the experience with boys and girls of the Fidias Foundation. Through creative and participatory dynamics, participants were able to reflect on the environmental impact of food waste and acquired knowledge about sustainability, responsible nutrition and practices for more responsible consumption. The day culminated in a sustainable gymkhana that combined psychomotor tests with questions about food waste, thus reinforcing everything learned in previous sessions.

The programme, which started in January, has had three sessions that have combined theory and practice to promote learning in a playful way. In the first one, addressed to players of the Women’s C team (14-18 years), key concepts such as planning a balanced menu, conscious buying and reusing food were addressed. With the support of the cook and television host Patrizia Vitelli, the participants were able to discover simple habits that help reduce waste in their daily lives.
Subsequently, the second workshop took place at the Fidias Foundation, with the participation of the young players of Athletic Club and children in vulnerable situations. Through creative dynamics and teamwork, the young people explored the impact of food waste in the sports field and designed a banner with awareness messages, highlighting the importance of responsible consumption.
In addition, this activity gave continuity to a previous workshop held at the Fidias Foundation with Edukabilbo, in which young people explored the problem of food waste in the world of football through creativity and teamwork. As a result, they designed a banner with awareness messages about the importance of reducing food waste.

Commitment to sustainability
Through this programme, participants have understood the importance of efficient food management and have found creative and sustainable solutions to reduce waste.
In addition to its work on food waste awareness, the Athletic Club Foundation develops different initiatives related to sustainability and environmental protection. One of the most outstanding projects is its collaboration with the Lurgaia Foundation, with which it participates in the reforestation of indigenous forests in Bizkaia. Through this initiative, players, technicians and employees of the Club have planted thousands of trees in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, contributing to the restoration of the local ecosystem and the compensation of the carbon footprint.
