The Athletic Club Foundation celebrates together with Lurgaia a day of tree planting and brings together some thirty people who are users of seven of its social projects
The Athletic Club Foundation, in collaboration with the Lurgaia Foundation, the Adsis Foundation, the Gernika Center of the Mental Health Network of Bizkaia of Osakidetza, the Utopia and Walking Football projects, and the associations Bizitegi, Bidesari and the Eragintza Foundation, held this Friday a day of planting native trees in the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai.
As in previous editions, this action has gone beyond the scope of CO2 compensation, combining environmental sustainability with social inclusion. The event reflects the Athletic Club Foundation’s double commitment: to reduce its carbon footprint and to encourage the active participation of diverse groups in projects that promote social integration.
In total, more than 1,500 trees were planted, including oaks, strawberry trees, birches and hawthorns, contributing significantly to the reforestation of the reserve. Of these, around 300 trees were planted during the event. This activity is part of an annual project through which the Foundation offsets the CO₂ emissions generated by the travel of Athletic Club’s professional teams (men’s, women’s and Bilbao Athletic) throughout the season. The result of these actions contributes to counteracting the club’s carbon footprint, with the objective of achieving a total compensation of the emissions generated.
