Footballers from the Red-and-White first team bring joy, excitement and gifts to children in hospitals
On Tuesday 30 December at midday, Athletic Club visited Cruces, Basurto and IMQ Zorrozaurrre hospitals. As is now traditional during the festive season, the lions wanted to visit the hospitals and bring joy, excitement and gifts to the children recovering there.
This Christmas visit is one of several initiatives that the Athletic Club Foundation carries out throughout the year in collaboration with Osakidetza and the IMQ to accompany young people during their stay in healthcare centres.
Athletic Club as a synonym for excitement
As with Halway Football – which consists of playing a mini-match with hospitalised children – the presence of the players is celebrated as the best gift of all.
During the visit, the footballers hand out red and white gifts, take photographs and sign autographs, but nothing compares to their company. The footballer’s closeness gives the child a moment of joy during their illness and a boost to their spirits for their recovery.
The best way to put the finishing touch to the open training session at San Mamés: remembering the children who were unable to attend because they were in hospital. That’s Athletic too.
