Around 2,000 people participated in the trek between Lezama and San Mamés, organized by the Athletic Club Foundation.
On Sunday, the third edition of the Athletic Martxa brought together nearly 2,000 people across its three routes, consolidating this sporting and family initiative organized by the Athletic Club Foundation.
La mañana amaneció radiante y animada, con Julen Axpe dando el pistoletazo de salida a la caminata con un bertso. Then, nearly 1,000 brave individuals braved the heat and set out to complete the full route: the 14.7 kilometers between Lezama and San Mamés.
The first stretch is more mountainous
The first part of the route is the most mountainous and passes through forests along the old path that, more than a century ago, led the villagers from their farms in Lezama to the Ribera market. It’s a beautiful route with some steep inclines, but they’re easy to manage.
At the top of Artxanda, the second group of participants joined the Athletic Martxa, and the third group joined at the La Salve bridge, next to the Guggenheim.
The San Mamés plaza was the perfect ending to such a family-friendly hike. Junto a la estatua de Iribar esperaban juegos, inflables, porterías… para rematar la travesía de la mejor forma posible. In short, it was another community event organized by the Athletic Club Foundation that promotes health and wellness through sports.
