In collaboration with DIGI, at the start of the match against Real Madrid in San Mamés, four players from the social inclusion and promotion of women’s football project take to the pitch with the lionesses
This weekend, Athletic Club experienced a very special day during the match against Real Madrid at San Mamés. In an event that gave visibility to the Marca Terreno & Lay’s Replay project, four players from the women’s team took to the pitch at the start of the match, accompanied by the lionesses, to highlight the Club’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive sport. This event was made possible thanks to a new collaboration between Athletic Club and DIGI.
Marca Terreno is an initiative whose purpose is to promote the practice of football among girls who, for various reasons, have felt excluded from the playing field. Aimed primarily at girls between 12 and 16 years of age in Bilbao, especially those from migrant families, the project seeks to offer them a safe space for learning and training through sport. At the same time, it promotes football as a powerful socio-educational tool that improves physical and mental health, as well as fostering values such as belonging, tolerance, respect, commitment and teamwork.
This participation is part of the activities of the project, which includes the creation of teams without level bias or competitive vocation, allowing the girls to live a positive and enriching sporting experience.
The Marca Terreno teams train weekly at the El Fango/Rekalde sports centre, and in addition to training and federated and school competitions, they participate in activities focused on working on the gender perspective, claiming football as a space that belongs to them and that they can make their own.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Lay’s and the collaboration with Common Goal and the UEFA Foundation, the project continues to grow and offer new opportunities for the future promises of women’s football to continue dreaming big, empowering themselves through their participation in the sport.
