Accompanying children in their recovery processes
These are projects launched by the Foundation to accompany and help as much as possible in the recovery processes of children who are suffering from an illness, as well as to encourage positive attitudes in young people during treatments.

It has been proven that recovery processes are more effective when spaces and treatments are humanized
At Athletic Club we think we can help public hospitals in this transformation of treatments, both by decorating spaces and by helping to claim positive values that translate into improvements for patients.
Collaboration with the paediatric innovation department of:
Claiming the values in common between elite athlete and patient
We claim those values that an elite athlete and a patient have in common: effort, faith, trust in the team, etc., embodied in characters designed for the occasion.
These characters decorate multiple paediatric spaces, with designs made and paid for by the Athletic Club Foundation, as well as stickers that are distributed both in the ward and in all the Health Centres in Bizkaia during treatment for minors. These stickers have the motto “txapeldun” “Champion” and are given as a reward for the attitude of the patients. Likewise, the boys and girls admitted to the Cruces University Hospital are given a diploma signed by the captain of Athletic Club, which certifies their courage and bravery during treatment. Each year we distribute more than 250,000 sticker-medals to minors in all the health centres in Bizkaia. We also give out around 8,000 diplomas to hospitalised boys and girls, encouraging positive attitudes during their illness and using the image of Athletic Club as an incentive.
On the other hand, from time to time we organise football matches with patients, in which Athletic Club players are present. The idea is to try to leave a good memory for the little ones during their time in the hospital.
Likewise, in 2019 more than a thousand hospital gowns were distributed for boys and girls, made with Athletic Club shirts modified with a new pattern.
Finally, the Athletic Club Foundation welcomes all babies born in Bizkaia by giving them a red & white bib with the motto “Ongi etorri familia eder honetara / Ongi etorri a esta gran familia / Welcome to this great family”. These bibs are given free of charge to the guardians of the new-borns at the Cruces University Hospital, the Basurto University Hospital and the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic.
