Athletic Club, in addition to sending an institutional donation of resources and materials, encourages the Athleticzale family to be an AMIC to the eleven non-professional Valencian clubs devastated by the floods
“We are Athletic Club, a team committed to society and relieving the suffering around us.”
This is Athletic vice-president Nerea Ortiz’s message upon launching the AMIC ATHLETICZALE campaign. The initiative encourages the Zurigorri family to support the recovery of those clubs most affected by the storms and floods that devastated the area around Valencia on October 29.
Athletic will donate €110,000 in kits and sports equipment to eleven of the non-professional teams most affected by the tragedy, and has set up this charity drive where every Zurigorri can become an AMIC to these eleven grassroots football clubs by donating a minimum amount of €20 through a website established for the initiative.
Football, like everything else, is built from the ground up. Local youth and amateur clubs make a huge contribution to Athletic’s identity. For this reason, the club has decided to direct its help to eleven non-professional clubs whose facilities have been devastated by the recent storms and floods: CF E1 Paiporta, UD Aldaia CF, Sedavi CF, UD Balompie Alfafar, Unión Benetusser Favara CF, FBCD Catarroja, At. Benimar Picanya, CDB Massanassa, Discóbolo La Torre AC, CF Juventud Chiva and Racing D’Algemesi.
Local clubs are at the hearts of their communities. They provide young people with the chance to practice sport and important educational and developmental opportunities. They’re places where the future can be rebuilt.
Once the full scale of the catastrophe was known, Athletic Club was determined to contribute directly and in an effective and coordinated manner. After various conversations with public entities and institutions, the club concluded that the AMIC ATHLETICZALE initiative was the one that best fulfilled the objectives set. In the days that followed, the club contacted the directors of each of these eleven teams to tell them about the proposal, and the reception was extraordinary and also moving.
At the same time, over the last few weeks, countless Athleticzales have asked the club to lead a charity campaign in solidarity with the people of Valencia. This initiative also responds to that request. What we say we are and what we are needs to be demonstrated with actions. We are what we do. And we are Athletic Club.
AMIC ATHLETICZALE will be in force until December 31. All the funds raised will be allocated equally to the 11 clubs mentioned above, with each of them receiving the same amount. People who join this campaign and become AMIC ATHLETICZALE will receive a digital certificate from Athletic Club.
